On Friday, May 16, 2025, Information Technology University (ITU) commemorated Youm-e-Tashakur following national directives—paying heartfelt tribute to the courage and sacrifices of Pakistan’s Armed Forces and our revered Shuhada during Operation Bunyān-ul-Marsūs.
The observance echoed the national spirit of gratitude and resilience, as urged by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and served as a reminder of the unity that binds the nation in moments of challenge.

Dr. Mohsen Ali, Chairperson of the Department of Artificial Intelligence, emphasized the urgent need to upgrade technological strength to reinforce national defense and progress. Dr. Rehan Hafiz, Director of ORIC, spoke about the modern nature of warfare and the strategic importance of advancing our defense systems to meet evolving threats. Dr. Usman Younis, Professor at ITU, echoed the sentiments of his colleagues, stating, “Not only do these times call for a united front, but this incident has renewed our faith. Faith goes a long way—we must hold on to it not just in the best of times, but also in the most testing ones.” Registrar Mr. Adeel also shared his reflections on the collective national effort and the significance of standing together during such defining moments.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Adnan Noor addressed the students, faculty, and staff, calling upon them to use their knowledge and skills in service of a stronger, more unified Pakistan. He underscored the responsibility of academic institutions in preparing future leaders through innovation, civic engagement, and technological advancement. Quoting from Surah Al-Anfal, he reminded the audience: “Prepare against them whatever you are able of power…”—a powerful call for readiness across all fronts, particularly in education, science, and national service.

A parallel ceremony at ITU’s Barki Campus featured a contextual discussion led by Dr. Yaqoob Bangash, Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, who reflected on Pakistan’s current strategic challenges within a broader regional and historical framework. He was joined by faculty members including Dr. Ali Jan, Dr. Kafeel, Dr. Farrukh, and others, who shared their thoughts on the relevance and significance of the day.

The ceremonies concluded with a symbolic cake-cutting to honor unity, resilience, and the spirit of national pride. The event served not only as a tribute to Pakistan’s defenders but as a reaffirmation of ITU’s unwavering commitment to nurturing patriotic, technologically adept, and socially responsible citizens.
